IPV Advocate

The Interpersonal Violence Advocate provides advocacy and resource coordination based on the empowerment approach. Under the supervision of an Associate Director, the Advocate is responsible for providing evidence-based, confidential advocacy and support services to primary and secondary student survivors of sexual assault, gender-based and intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment to include sexual and street harassment.

Primary duties include:

  • Serves a part of an on-call team that answers and responds to calls on the 24/7 hotline for a designated period during business hours and after hours through the on-call rotation.
  • Provide confidential and comprehensive advocacy services that are empowerment-based and trauma-informed for primary and secondary survivors of interpersonal violence (sexual assault, relationship/intimate partner violence, stalking and harassment).
  • Functions as liaison for survivors with campus and/or community partners. Coordinates campus and community resources to support survivors including emergency housing, food, clothing, transportation, and other appropriate assistance.
  • Ensure data is up-to-date and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Participate in regular professional development opportunities offered by campus, state, and national resources.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health promotion/education, public health, social work, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with victims/survivors of interpersonal violence.
  • Preferred experience working in a college/university setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Pending graduates eligible if candidate receives their degree by date of employment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Confidential Advocacy Services:

  • Focuses confidential direct service, which may include crisis intervention, safety planning, consultation, referral, and case management.
  • Serves a part of an on-call team that answers and responds to calls on the 24/7 hotline for a designated period during business hours and after hours through the on-call rotation.

  • Completes all required charting and documentation of client advocacy sessions and service delivery accurately and in a timely fashion, ensuring compliance with all university, local, state and national regulations
  • Responsible for maintaining reporting records to complete annual CLERY Report.
  • Utilize data to inform improvement efforts and outreach services.
