IRC67770 Maintenance Worker II

This is semi-skilled manual work requiring the application of skills and knowledge above the basic laboring level. Work includes use of specialized hand and power tools and equipment to perform a variety of cleaning tasks and minor repairs at the six City-operated Library facilities open to the general public. The work environment includes both interior and exterior locations and occasionally in adverse conditions. Knowledge of plumbing, painting, drywall repair, pressure washing, and concrete work is needed. Work may include lead supervisory responsibility over custodial staff. The Libraries operate seven (7) days per week, and an employee in this class will on occasion be required to report to work outside of the normal shift hours to address urgent repairs, respond to alarm calls or other emergencies, perform storm preparation, and staff special events that may occur outside of the normal shift hours.

Salary: $17.64 - $23.72 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

• Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
• Have at least one (1) year of building maintenance experience.
• Have considerable knowledge of a variety of cleaning, repair, and construction including materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule that includes some after-hours shifts and being on-call some weekends.
• Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications: Preferred applicants:

• Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Have some basic supervisory experience.
• Have some computer knowledge.
• Have some basic customer service experience.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
