Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise students assigned to the In-School Suspension (ISS) program in a structured and orderly environment.
- Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with school rules, expectations, and disciplinary requirements.
- Assist students in completing assignments provided by classroom teachers and maintain academic engagement during ISS placement.
- Communicate with teachers about student assignments, progress, and work completion.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, assignments, and disciplinary documentation.
- Provide appropriate supervision during transitions, restroom breaks, meals, and other scheduled activities.
- Assist administrators with implementing behavior intervention strategies and restorative practices when appropriate.
- Reinforce positive behavior and encourage students to make responsible choices.
- Ensure a safe, secure, and productive learning environment within the ISS setting.
- Assist with school-wide supervision duties as assigned.
- Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
- Review current developments, literature, and technical source information related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies and administrative directives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Hold or be eligible for required certification.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Ability to effectively manage student behavior and maintain a structured environment.
- High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
- Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
- Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
- Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
