Role Summary:
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Data Analyst to support business intelligence and data-driven decision-making initiatives. This role will focus on transforming raw data into actionable insights through strong analytical capabilities, data modeling, and visualization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working within a data team environment, with strong expertise in SQL, business intelligence tools, and data preparation techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights that support business decisions.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize dashboards and reports using Power BI and Tableau to enable self-service analytics.
- Write efficient and optimized SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
- Perform data preparation and data wrangling activities to ensure data quality, consistency, and usability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (business stakeholders, data engineers, and analysts) to understand requirements and translate them into analytical solutions.
- Support business intelligence initiatives by creating data models, KPIs, and performance metrics.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity by performing validation and reconciliation checks.
- Work closely with data engineering teams to understand and utilize ELT pipelines and data architecture.
- Assist in improving data governance, documentation, and standardization practices.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
(Equivalent practical experience may be considered.)
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data querying and transformation
- Hands-on experience with Power BI and Tableau for reporting and dashboards
- Solid understanding of Business Intelligence concepts and data visualization best practices
- Experience with data wrangling / data preparation techniques
- Good understanding of relational data structures and data modeling
- Analytical Skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
- Ability to translate business questions into analytical solutions
- High attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy
- Collaboration & Communication
- Experience working in a data team environment
- Ability to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong documentation and presentation skills
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with ELT tools such as Matillion, or similar platforms
- Exposure to cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure, AWS)
- Familiarity with data pipelines and data engineering concepts
- Experience supporting enterprise analytics or large-scale reporting initiatives
Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
