Join the Sixth Judicial District as a Courtroom IT Audio/Visual Engineer! The Sixth Judicial District seeks to fill a full-time Courtroom IT Audio/Visual Engineer position. This position performs highly responsible technical work managing the audio and visual functions in all courtrooms, hearing rooms, and offices of the Sixth Judicial District. This position provides the opportunity to work within the Minnesota State Court System and serve the public. The individual selected for this position will analyze, troubleshoot, program, modify, design and test all audio and visual equipment related to the sound systems, assisted listening devices, court interpreter equipment, and video conferencing systems in the district.

Work involves adapting and applying a wide variety of techniques, tools and methods to complex tasks within the assigned IT area, and regularly using independent judgment to choose the best procedure to follow in varying circumstances where the approach is not fully defined by existing documentation or previously established procedures. This position provides research and evaluation of technical information and products, recommendations on hardware/software purchases, and consultation on local technical issues within their functional and/or geographical area of assignment for technology users, development project teams and supervisors.

What You Will Do 

The following are examples of major job duties expected of this position: 

  • Respond to service desk tickets related to all audio/visual (AV) matters in the district.
  • Modify and potentially design/develop base code for AV systems using Q-Sys, Crestron, Symmetrix, or other software or hardware.
  • Advise management about needs and capabilities, including anticipation of future requirements and potential problems.
  • Provide project management to any project associated with courtroom technology, including design and installation.
  • Provide on-site repair, reconfiguration, adjustments, and replacement of equipment as necessary.
  • Perform testing and regular preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinate warranty work, maintenance agreements, and timely repair of all equipment with vendors.
  • Devise or recommend security measures to protect hardware and software resources.
  • Create training materials and provide training to staff on AV systems.
  • Provide general IT/computer related support to district staff as time allows.

  • Associate’s degree or two years of college in Information Technology; two to three years of relevant experience with audio/visual technology or information technology.
  • A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation is required for this position as travel is required.

Nice to Have 

  • Experience integrating multiple functions of sound amplification, digital recording, and conferencing systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theories and practices related to audio and visual technology tools.
  • Familiarity with Dante audio and Zoom enterprise deployments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to translate technical terminology into terms understandable to non-technical employees.
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to provide general computer related support.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Minnesota State government IT departments. 

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting or a courtroom and will involve travel throughout the Sixth Judicial District to support 22 courtrooms and other conference rooms as necessary. Work will be conducted remotely and on-site, as business needs require. When working remotely, access to reliable internet connection is required.

What You Will Earn
The anticipated starting hourly rate for this position is no less than $31.84 for external hires, with a full future earning potential of $31.84-$49.30 per hour. This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.
 

Supplemental Information
The Sixth Judicial District serves Minnesota's Arrowhead Region, including the counties of Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis (Duluth, Hibbing, and Virginia).
 

Logistics

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position classified as an Information Technology Audio/Visual Engineer within the Minnesota Judicial Branch job classification system. The position will be based out of the district office in Duluth, Minnesota, or in another courthouse in the Sixth Judicial District. Work will be performed throughout the Sixth Judicial District and travel to court locations will be required. Work will be conducted remotely and on-site, as business needs require. When working remotely, access to reliable internet connection is required. Typical hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
