IT Data Science and Business Intelligence Internship

Scot Forge Company is looking to hire one IT Data Science and Business Intelligence Intern for the Summer of 2027 at the corporate facility in Spring Grove, IL. This internship will provide exposure to an IT team supporting a manufacturing environment through data analysis, reporting, pipelines, and applied machine learning.

Potential Team Tasks and Project Examples

Work may include self-directed projects with mentor check-ins, pairing with an owner, or shadowing to learn a system. Some examples of work include the following.

• Participating in the definition of prompts, skills, agents, custom GPTs, or other LLM harness components
• Partnering to help solve business problems using analytics frameworks like CRISP-DM
• Participating in data ecosystem modernization efforts by migrating small components of ETL pipelines to cloud platforms
• Working with data models in analytical tools that serve dashboards and other BI tools
• Designing and developing dashboards, visualizations, or reports to meet business requirements
• Gathering requirements, refining scope, and breaking work into tasks with users and mentors

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or a related field
• Rising Junior or higher at the start of the internship

Required Skills and Project Experience

• Programming in a language with analytical or data-processing toolkits (for example, Python or R, including Pandas or Polars)
• Building visualizations that communicate findings (for example, Matplotlib or Seaborn)
• CRUD operations in relational databases (for example, Oracle SQL or Microsoft SQL)

Preferred Skills and Project Experience

• Data transformation pipelines and tools (for example, Spark, dbt, or scikit-learn pipelines)
• Training supervised machine learning models for classification or regression (for example, MLP or random forest)
• Visualization, business intelligence, and reporting tools (for example, Qlik, Power BI, or Tableau)
• Using or fine-tuning open-source models from public model repositories (for example, Segment Anything or Gemma 4)
• Working with generative AI tools (for example, Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, or Antigravity)

The estimated pay range for this position is the lowest and highest range we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We ultimately may pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. The actual base pay offered to a candidate will depend on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, geographic location and prevailing minimum wage, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.
