Position: IT Development Intern

Report to: Product Manager

Job Description Overview

Kwest Group is looking for an energetic, motivated IT Development Intern in our Perrysburg office. The Developer Intern will work alongside Kwest Group's development team to support the creation of user-friendly, web and mobile applications using Node.js and modern front-end technologies. This role is designed as a learning opportunity, providing hands-on experience in real-world software development, agile processes, and collaboration with stakeholders.

What will you do?

  • Assist in developing and maintaining web-based applications under the guidance of senior developers.
  • Participate in an agile, iterative development process with team and stakeholder input.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and internal tools.
  • Translate design mockups into functional, consistent UI components under the guidance of senior developers and designers.
  • Contribute to maintaining a consistent look and feel across applications by following shared component patterns and styling guidelines.
  • Help with data auditing efforts using reports and basic data validation techniques.
  • Contribute to code cleanup, testing, and documentation of existing Kwest software.
  • Follow established brand and UI/UX guidelines in all development work.
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback from team members.
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and suggest potential solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and development practices.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, and learning opportunities provided by Kwest Group.

What do you need to be successful?

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Exposure to Node.js or general backend development concepts preferred.
  • Familiarity with Git or version control concepts preferred.
  • Exposure to a front-end framework (React, Vue, Svelte, etc.) is a plus.
  • Interest in learning database concepts (relational or NoSQL).
  • Strong willingness to learn, accept feedback, and improve technical skills.
  • Basic problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good communication and time-management skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to handle, or touch objects or controls.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders.
  • Occasional travel to job sites may be required to better understand field operations and user needs.
  • Work environment may include active construction sites with exposure to dust, noise, high heat, extreme cold, and rain.
  • Must wear employer-mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) when on-site.
  • Must be able to safely navigate uneven terrain and construction environments when required.
  • Physical activity requirements may include light lifting and movement of equipment as needed.
  • Flexible work hours may be required, depending on project needs and internship schedule.
