About This Role

The Microsoft 365 Engineer is responsible for designing, operating, and improving the universitys Microsoft 365 cloud infrastructure, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune, and Entra ID. The role supports the universitys hybrid identity and cloud architecture by integrating on-premises and cloud platforms to deliver reliable authentication, secure access, and consistent service behavior. This position focuses on the security, availability, and operational integrity of Microsoft 365 through the implementation and management of Conditional Access, MFA, DLP, Purview, and related controls, while resolving complex issues across identity, messaging, collaboration, and endpoint services. The engineer performs core cloud infrastructure duties such as service configuration, automation, monitoring, capacity planning, and lifecycle management to ensure scalable and resilient operations. The role contributes to disaster recovery, business continuity, and governance for Microsoft 365 services and collaborates with academic, administrative, and research units to ensure the platform reliably supports teaching, learning, and university operations.

What You''ll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and six years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune, Entra ID).
  • Strong familiarity with hybrid identity environments, including Azure AD/Entra ID, Conditional Access, and MFA.
  • Hands-on experience with automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell).
  • Solid understanding of hybrid cloud concepts (Azure, AWS, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to produce documentation, follow governance standards, and support best-practice adoption.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft 365 security, compliance, DLP, and Purview technologies.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar).
  • Previous experience supporting enterprise-scale hybrid cloud environments.
  • Background in disaster recovery planning and business continuity for Microsoft 365 services.
  • Experience contributing to cloud governance, policy development, or architectural standards.
  • Exposure to automation platforms (Azure Automation, GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse user groups and stakeholder communities.
