Position Description:

Join a dynamic public sector organization in New York City as an IT Infrastructure Engineer / Mainframe Systems Manager. This full-time, direct hire role offers an excellent opportunity to lead and optimize enterprise mainframe infrastructure, ensuring operational excellence across critical systems. Based in Manhattan, this position requires a seasoned leader with expertise in mainframe environments, team management, and strategic infrastructure initiatives. You will oversee daily operations, manage technical teams, and drive projects that enhance system performance, security, and disaster recovery capabilities. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Mainframe Systems team to ensure availability, stability, and operational efficiency of enterprise infrastructure.
  • Oversee z/OS administration, hardware configurations, performance optimization, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Monitor system performance and capacity, performing regular planning and enhancement recommendations.
  • Manage projects related to hardware/software upgrades, infrastructure modernization, and enterprise support initiatives.
  • Ensure software updates, security standards, and emerging technologies are integrated effectively.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal departments on procurement, infrastructure planning, and support activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of procedures, system configurations, and operational standards.
  • Provide 24/7 support for scheduled maintenance, incident resolution, and critical production systems.
  • Contribute to fiscal planning for hardware/software lifecycle and infrastructure investments.

Top Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, plus 4+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or data center operations; or 8+ years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • At least 12 years of experience managing enterprise infrastructure, including mainframe environments, system monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support.
  • Extensive experience supporting IBM z/OS systems, enterprise storage, and complex infrastructure projects.
