Reporting to the Director of IT, R&D Applications, the IT Intern will support data science, analytics, and operational improvement initiatives across IT and business operations. This role is ideal for a student who is interested in applying analytical thinking, data organization, and visualization skills to real-world business challenges. The intern will assist with workflow mapping, data cleansing, dashboard creation, license reconciliation, tracking activities, and other data-driven projects that improve visibility, accuracy, and decision-making.
This role may be based in our Waltham, MA headquarters, which would be a hybrid role, or it can also be fully remote. Our office-based employees are required to work in the office three (3) days a week. If remote, travel to headquarters for meetings would be required at the discretion of management.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Map existing workflows and business processes to identify data sources, handoffs, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation or improved reporting
- Support data cleansing efforts by reviewing datasets for accuracy, completeness, duplication, and consistency
- Assist with the creation of dashboards and reports that present key metrics, trends, and operational insights in a clear and actionable format
- Partner with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate business questions into data requirements
- Perform license reconciliation by comparing user assignments, utilization data, renewal information, and system records to identify discrepancies or optimization opportunities
- Track project updates, data requests, action items, licenses, and other operational metrics to support better visibility and accountability
- Document data definitions, workflow steps, reporting assumptions, and repeatable processes to support ongoing use and knowledge transfer
- Analyze datasets to identify patterns, gaps, and trends that may inform process improvements or operational decisions
- Assist with ad hoc data analysis, reporting, and administrative tasks related to IT, systems, and business operations
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
- Previous internship experience a plus
- Experience with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, or similar tools is a plus
- Ability to organize, clean, and interpret data with strong attention to detail
- Comfortable documenting processes, summarizing findings, and communicating insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and willingness to learn new tools and business processes
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, track progress, and meet deadlines in a professional environment
- Strong commitment to ethical standards
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
- Ability to travel up to [1%]
