Job Description

Full-Time | Home-Based With Client Visits Across Metro Atlanta

Ready to Help Build What Comes Next?

We're looking for an experienced IT professional who's ready for more than simply managing tickets and solving technical problems.

This is an opportunity to become an operational and technical backbone of a growing IT consulting firm - taking ownership, strengthening processes, bringing structure to how work gets done, and helping build the systems that allow the company to scale.

You'll still be hands-on with technology and clients, but you'll also work directly with the owner to help build the operational engine for the company's next chapter. This isn't a role that manages our consultants. It's a leadership role built on serving them: removing roadblocks, answering questions, and making their day to day work easier.

If you've reached the point in your IT career where you want more influence and the chance to make a real difference, both in how our company runs and in how our clients use technology, we'd like to meet you.

What's In It for You?

  • $75,000-$85,000/year, depending on experience
  • Bonus and future compensation growth opportunities
  • Approximately $600/month stipend for personal cell phone and vehicle use related to the job
  • Primarily home-based work (when not supporting clients onsite)
  • 10 days paid vacation to start, increasing with tenure
  • 3 paid sick/personal days
  • 7 paid holidays, including Good Friday
  • 401(k) eligibility after 6 months, with company match
  • High degree of autonomy
  • Direct access to the owner and the opportunity to have a real voice in how the company operates and grows

Your Impact

This role combines hands-on IT, project ownership, client service, and operational leadership.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Help shape the business: Work directly with the owner to strengthen operations, establish better processes, and build the structure needed for future growth.
  • Support the team: Partner with onsite and remote IT consultants, helping remove roadblocks, answer technical questions, and keep projects moving.
  • Own IT projects: Take projects from planning through completion rather than waiting for someone else to determine every next step.
  • Lead PSA/ticketing improvements: Help drive the rollout and ongoing administration of HaloPSA, including ticket queues, workflows, reporting, and time-data adoption.
  • Build better processes: Develop and implement practical SOPs, documentation, onboarding checklists, and recurring maintenance schedules.
  • Provide hands-on technical support: Jump into systems administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance when needed.
  • Oversee security and backups: Help monitor backup completion, antivirus/EDR status, patch management, and related client security needs.
  • Support Microsoft environments: Work with Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Windows Server, Active Directory, and related technologies.
  • Secure cloud environments: Help clients adopt MFA, Conditional Access and single sign-on, and connect business applications securely to Microsoft 365.
  • Guide AI adoption: Help us and our clients put AI tools to good use while protecting security and data privacy.
  • Automate where possible: Write and maintain PowerShell scripts and identify opportunities to make everyday work more efficient.
  • Build trusted client relationships: Communicate clearly, solve problems, and help clients understand their technology without unnecessary jargon.

What You Bring

We're looking for someone with the technical foundation to jump in and contribute - but just as importantly, the judgment and initiative to take ownership.

  • 3+ years of IT support or MSP experience, ideally at the mid-to-senior level
  • Strong troubleshooting, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership without needing constant direction
  • Solid systems administration experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365
  • Working knowledge of backup, antivirus/EDR, and patch-management best practices
  • Experience administering and securing Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD and Microsoft 365, including MFA, Conditional Access and SSO
  • Networking fundamentals, including subnetting, DHCP, DNS and VLANs, plus experience administering firewalls
  • Hands-on PowerShell scripting experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working directly with clients across different industries
  • Ability to remain calm, think clearly, and work through problems when things don't go according to plan

Experience with a small or boutique MSP/IT consulting firm is strongly preferred, but not required. Someone accustomed to wearing multiple hats, taking ownership, and supporting small-business clients will likely transition best into this environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with any of the following is a plus:
  • HaloPSA or another PSA/ticketing platform
  • SonicWall firewalls
  • Ubiquiti/UniFi networking equipment
  • N-able RMM or another RMM platform
  • SentinelOne
  • Duo
  • SSO management

You don't need experience with every tool on this list. We care more about your technical foundation, troubleshooting ability, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to learn.

The Person Who Will Thrive Here

  • Technical ability matters, but how you work matters just as much.
  • This is a small team where people are trusted to manage their work, solve problems, and make good decisions. You'll thrive here if you're:
  • Self-directed and accountable
  • Comfortable taking the lead when needed
  • Humble enough to know what you don't know
  • Open to feedback
  • A strong communicator
  • Relationship-oriented with clients
  • Able to work independently without operating like an island
  • Someone who naturally sees opportunities to make things better
  • Interested in building and improving processes rather than simply following them

We're a faith-driven team, and it shows in how we treat our clients and each other. We work with organizations from a variety of backgrounds, including many Catholic parishes, so professionalism and respect for each client's culture and values are essential.

About Matt Powell & Associates

Matt Powell & Associates is a small, relationship-driven IT consulting firm serving businesses and organizations throughout metro Atlanta. In many ways, the team serves as the outsourced IT department for companies that don't need a full-time internal IT team.

Clients include Catholic parishes, accounting firms, veterinary practices, nonprofits, property management companies, and other small businesses.

The team has built long-standing client relationships and strong employee tenure by focusing on trust, responsiveness, and personal service. Many clients view the team as an extension of their own organization rather than simply an outside technology vendor.

In nearly 15 years in business, we've built a team that stays. Several members have been with us for close to a decade.

Now, the company is ready for its next stage of growth - without losing the culture and client relationships that made it successful in the first place.

If this sounds like the kind of opportunity you've been looking for - where you can make an impact, help shape what comes next, and grow along with the company - we'd love to hear from you.
