Information Technology Services (ITS) at the MCCCD is seeking a forward-thinking IT Project Manager to help drive meaningful technology initiatives that support students, faculty, and staff across one of the nations largest community college systems.
Reporting to the Director of the Project Management Office (PMO), the IT Project Manager leads and coordinates cross-functional technology projects from concept through delivery. This role ensures projects are planned, executed, and monitored using modern project management practices, delivering solutions on time, within budget, and with measurable value to the institution. The IT PM partners closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into practical, impactful outcomes.
Essential Functions
Project Planning & Execution Coordinates and facilitates end-to-end project lifecycle activities for small to medium size projects, including initiation, design, development, testing, deployment, and closeout. Facilitates the development of detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocations. Maintains project documentation and ensures compliance with internal governance requirements. Anticipates risks, implements mitigation strategies, and manages project constraints and dependencies. Escalates risks to leadership as appropriate.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication Serves as the primary point of contact for project sponsors, business units, and technical teams. Facilitates project meetings, status updates, and decision-making sessions. Schedules project team meetings, circulates meeting agendas, documents, and socializes meeting notes. Follows up on action items and translates moderately technical concepts into clear business-friendly communication.
Team Leadership & Collaboration Motivates project teams to ensure high-quality deliverables and accountability. Coordinates with IT infrastructure, applications, security, and vendor partners to align project activities. Resolves conflicts at the lowest level and enlists leadership as needed. Removes project roadblocks and promotes a collaborative project environment. Provides training, guidance, and/or orientation to junior team members.
Technology & Vendor Management Collaborates and coordinates vendor relationships, contracts, and deliverables for assigned projects. Researches applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations to facilitate processes. Ensures systems and solutions meet architecture, security, and compliance standards. Supports testing, quality assurance, and change management processes to ensure smooth transitions to production.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting Tracks project progress, milestones, and KPIs against objectives. Prepares and presents reports to leadership and governance committees. Conducts post-implementation reviews to capture lessons learned and improve future practices. Creates and maintains project dashboards and performs related activities as assigned.
