Position Description

The IT Quality Engineer at Applied Medical designs, develops, and executes automated and manual tests to ensure applications meet quality and compliance standards within a regulated environment. This position works closely with developers, business analysts, and project teams to build robust test frameworks, validate complex systems, and ensure adherence to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The IT Quality Engineer leads validation testing efforts across multiple concurrent projects, bringing strong technical expertise and a rigorous approach to software quality assurance. Professionals with backgrounds in software quality engineering, test automation engineering, or software validation in regulated environments will find this role well-aligned with their experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test scripts for web, application programming interface (API), and backend systems.
  • Create test plans, test cases, software validation summary reports, software risk assessments, and traceability matrices for projects and change requests.
  • Execute automated and manual tests; review and audit test results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure all software validation deliverables comply with documented SDLC and regulatory requirements, and perform peer reviews of deliverables created by other team members.
  • Contribute to project plans by estimating and preparing timelines for testing and validation activities, ensuring all deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Assist with quality metrics, dashboards, and trend analysis related to software quality and test automation performance.
  • Research and evaluate new testing tools, automation technologies, and frameworks to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Mentor and train team members in test automation, software validation practices, and quality engineering principles.
  • Collaborate closely with application development teams and cross-functional groups to validate systems against complex business and technical requirements.

  • Delivers thorough, audit-ready validation documentation that meets SDLC and regulatory requirements consistently across all assigned projects.
  • Builds and maintains automated test frameworks that improve testing efficiency and coverage over time.
  • Completes testing and validation activities on schedule, contributing to predictable project delivery across a multi-project environment.
  • Establishes trusted working relationships with developers, business analysts, and project managers through clear communication and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Identifies automation opportunities within complex requirements and translates them into effective, scalable test solutions.
  • Contributes to team capability growth through active mentoring, knowledge sharing, and peer review of validation deliverables.
  • Stays current with advancements in software engineering, automation technologies, and information systems to continuously improve team practices.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of experience in software testing, including test automation and validation, preferably in a regulated environment
  • Strong programming or scripting skills in one or more languages, such as C#, Java, Python, or JavaScript
  • Experience designing and executing automated tests for web, API, and backend systems
  • Advanced knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle and software validation processes
  • Experience writing, reviewing, and approving test plans and test cases
  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps for test case management, pipelines, and automation workflows
  • Proficiency with quality metrics, reporting, and test management tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to analyze complex user and software requirements for testability and automation opportunities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently within a cross-functional team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing
  • Ability to mentor and train team members in testing and validation practices

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • Experience with SAP test automation or SAP system validation
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automated build and test processes
  • Familiarity with modern test automation frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or REST Assured
  • Experience with performance testing, security testing, or data validation
