Location: Redwood City, CA  - Remote/hybrid
Duration: 12+ months

 
Job Description:
We are seeking a talented Information Security Officer to join a dynamic, close-knit Information Security team. In this role you will lead initiatives to protect digital resources by developing and implementing security strategies to mitigate risks. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining a secure and resilient environment across the organization.

The Cybersecurity Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team is an innovative, newly-formed group with an entrepreneurial spirit. You will help grow the team while advancing your own career.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Support the research and operational community by providing guidance on information security matters.
  • Collaborate with IT groups to implement and improve security measures aligned with NIST 800-171 standards.
  • Help execute a strategy to prepare the organization for security audits and changing regulatory requirements, with emphasis on Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and NIST 800-171.
  • Assess current security practices, identify gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in implementing security controls and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver awareness and training programs aligned with NIST to educate staff.
  • Review and update security policies and procedures to meet NIST requirements and reflect best practices.
  • Support monitoring of security controls and risk management, evaluate effectiveness regularly.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to security policies, procedures, risk assessments, and compliance efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, Finance, HR, Legal) to integrate information security into overall risk management.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, emerging threats, and regulatory changes to inform security practices.
  • Perform related duties to support the information security program.

Minimum Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in information security, risk management, or compliance.
Qualifications / Must-have Skills
  • Experience in information security, risk management, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations, particularly NIST and HIPAA.
  • Exposure to security audits, risk assessments, or vulnerability assessments.
  • Familiarity with security technologies such as encryption, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and SIEMs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to varied audiences in English.
  • Ability to stay current with security threats, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
