Job Description:

IT - Software Developer IV

Location: Home, Virginia (Remote)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe z/OS Developer. This role involves hands-on development with COBOL on IBM z/OS and participation in mainframe migration and modernization initiatives. The ideal candidate will be proficient in a range of mainframe technologies and possess strong analytical skills to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on programming with COBOL on IBM z/OS.
  • Utilize JCL, VSAM, DB2, IMS, and CICS for development and support.
  • Engage in batch processing and online transaction processing.
  • Work with IBM utilities, TSO/ISPF, and Abend-AID for system management.
  • Leverage tools like Control-D, Control-M, and File-AID.
  • Contribute to mainframe migration planning, including risk assessment and resource management.
  • Utilize AI/ML tools for code analysis, pattern recognition, or modernization support.
  • Collaborate with Java developers on mainframe integration and migration planning.

Required Qualifications

Education: A degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field is required. Four additional years of related experience can be substituted if the degree is not in a relevant field.

Experience: A minimum of eight years of relevant experience, including hands-on COBOL programming on IBM z/OS. Experience in mainframe migration projects or modernization initiatives is needed.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in JCL, COBOL, VSAM, DB2, IMS, and CICS.
  • Strong knowledge of batch processing and online transaction processing.
  • Experience with IBM utilities, TSO/ISPF, and Abend-AID.
  • Experience with Control-D, Control-M, and File-AID.
  • Familiarity with mainframe communication tools and security protocols like RACF.
  • Knowledge of best practices in mainframe migration planning.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools (e.g., CoPilot, WatsonX, ReDux) for code analysis.
  • Understanding of AI-driven code refactoring platforms.

Soft Skills:

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with a focus on quality and detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DevOps practices on mainframes, including tools like Jenkins and Git.
  • Prior experience with performance tuning on mainframe systems.
  • Prior experience with ServiceNow.

Additional Requirements

  • All candidates must be a US Citizen or have permanent residence status.
  • Candidate must have lived in the US for the past five years.
  • Cannot have more than six months of travel outside the United States within the last five years, with exceptions for military service.
