IT Software Development Internship

Scot Forge Company is looking to hire one IT Software Development Intern for the Summer of 2027 in-person at the corporate facility in Spring Grove, IL. This internship will provide exposure to a collaborative IT team supporting a manufacturing environment through software development, integrations, and business applications.

Potential Projects and Tasks Examples

Work may include self-directed projects with mentor check-ins, pairing with an owner, or shadowing to learn a system. Some examples of work include the following.

• Participating in the design and development of application backends with integrations to other systems such as REST APIs or webhooks
• Building components of business-facing frontend applications for edge, mobile, and web devices
• Participating in manufacturing digital-twin projects with the OT and Ignition teams
• Working with the ERP development team to re-imagine user experiences from web to mobile platforms
• Developing and integrating prompts, skills, and agents for generative AI with applications and systems

Qualifications:

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• Rising Sophomore or higher at the start of the internship

Required Skills and Project Experience

• Programming in an object-oriented language (i.e., C# or Python)
• Working with Git-based version control tools
• Interfacing with other systems, such as REST APIs or relational databases (for example, Oracle SQL or Microsoft SQL)

Preferred Skills and Project Experience

• Designing frontend user interfaces or developing web-based applications
• Project scope and design, including data models, system architecture, and task refinement
• CI/CD fundamentals, Docker, application packaging, or other deployment concepts
• Building APIs or webhooks, including thread-safe or parallel processing where needed
• Working with generative AI tools (for example, Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, or Antigravity)

• Must be able to pass a 90 day head hair drug test today

The estimated pay range for this position is the lowest and highest range we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We ultimately may pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. The actual base pay offered to a candidate will depend on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, geographic location and prevailing minimum wage, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.
