IT Software Engineer 1 (87548-1)
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Software Engineer 1. The work will be done onsite or hybrid depending on the customers preference (Chicago, IL currently 3 days in office per week, transitioning to full-time onsite). This is a long-term 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $51/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking an IT Software Engineer 1 to support software quality engineering and automation initiatives within a large enterprise environment. This role focuses on extending and enhancing automated testing frameworks while collaborating closely with business stakeholders, architects, and development teams. The engineer will translate business requirements into technical acceptance criteria, validate system integrations, and ensure high-quality software delivery. This position is ideal for a candidate with strong automation testing experience and a deep understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Extend and maintain automated testing frameworks using Java and JavaScript
Develop and execute backend and frontend automation tests (REST APIs, web services)
Translate business requirements into technical acceptance criteria and test scenarios
Conduct gap analysis and collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements
Participate in design reviews, stakeholder meetings, and test coverage presentations
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
2+ years of professional experience in software quality engineering or automation testing
Strong knowledge of SDLC and BDD testing frameworks
Experience with Java, REST Assured, Selenium, Playwright, and API testing
Ability to write SQL queries and understand system-level data flows
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AWS cloud technologies
Familiarity with CI/CD, Jenkins, Git, and DevOps practices
Experience with TDD, code review practices, or API gateways (Apigee)
Understanding of microservices architecture and performance testing
Strong documentation and UML/diagramming skills
