hybrid in Chicago, Illinois, with
2 days per week in the office. Candidates must be willing to transition to full-time onsite if required. This is a
12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client.
Compensation is up to $106/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior IT Software Engineer with a strong background in software test automation to support the continued expansion of an advanced autonomy platform. This role will focus on designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality software releases. The ideal candidate is an experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with expertise in Java, API testing, CI/CD pipelines, and automation best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and enhance automated testing frameworks using Java and JavaScript.
- Develop and maintain API, integration, and end-to-end automated test suites for enterprise software applications.
- Create automated functional and performance test scripts using tools such as Java, Karate, and JMeter.
- Collaborate with product owners, developers, and QA teams to define test strategies, troubleshoot issues, and improve software quality.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and support continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) initiatives.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 9+ years of experience in software quality engineering, test automation, or SDET roles.
- Strong experience with Java and at least one Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) framework such as Cucumber or JBehave.
- Extensive experience designing and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
- 5+ years of experience testing REST APIs and web services.
- Experience writing SQL queries and validating database-driven applications.
- Experience with full-stack, integration, and end-to-end software testing.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and DevOps practices, including Jenkins and Git.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Python.
- AWS Cloud development or testing experience.
- Experience with JMeter for performance and load testing.
- Familiarity with API gateways such as Apigee.
- Experience working within Agile development teams.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture.
- Strong documentation and technical leadership experience.
