Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) / QA Automation Engineer with 9+ years of experience in software development and test automation, preferably within large enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate will have a strong Java development background (5+ years) and extensive experience designing, developing, and maintaining test automation frameworks rather than simply creating automation scripts. This role requires expertise in API automation, CI/CD processes, system integration testing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

The selected candidate will support the VL Autonomy program, contributing to upcoming feature enhancements planned for 2026. This individual will participate in AVT calls, design discussions, cross-team collaboration, and expansion of the SIT automation framework.

Position Responsibilities

• Serve as a Senior SDET responsible for extending and enhancing automation frameworks using Java/JavaScript.
• Analyze business requirements and acceptance criteria to develop comprehensive test strategies and test plans.
• Design, develop, and maintain automated test cases using existing automation frameworks.
• Build automation solutions supporting Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) environments.
• Design, develop, and maintain API test automation frameworks that support scripting, execution, and test result analysis.
• Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to QA engineers across onshore and offshore teams.
• Train team members on creating, executing, analyzing, and maintaining automated regression test suites.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and development teams to resolve defects, enhancements, upgrades, and functionality-related issues.
• Develop automated functional test scripts using tools such as Java, Karate, and JMeter.
• Perform exploratory testing and manual testing when required.
• Promote testing best practices, methodologies, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support end-to-end system integration testing across multiple platforms and third-party integrations.

Work Arrangement:

• Hybrid onsite role beginning Day 1 in Chicago, IL.
• Interviews may also be conducted onsite.

Required Technical Skills

• 9+ years of experience in QA Automation / SDET engineering.
• Strong experience designing and developing test automation frameworks.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java development.
• Strong experience testing REST APIs/Web Services (5+ years).
• Experience developing automated test scripts, test cases, and test data.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database queries.
• Experience with full-stack testing and third-party system integrations.
• Experience performing end-to-end system integration testing for enterprise software platforms.
• Experience with BDD frameworks such as:
  • Cucumber (3–5 years preferred)
  • JBehave or similar frameworks
• Experience with:
  • Test Driven Development (TDD)
  • Continuous Integration (CI)
  • Code review practices
  • DevOps processes and tools (Jenkins, Git, CI/CD)

Desired Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience with Python.
• Development experience with AWS Cloud technologies.
• 3+ years of experience developing scenario-based performance tests using JMeter.
• Experience with Apigee or other API Gateway technologies.
• Experience working on Agile teams with knowledge of Agile/Lean practices.
• Understanding of microservices architecture.
• Experience with load and performance testing.
• Strong technical documentation skills.
