Senior Java Backend Engineer (Technical Lead)

Location: Chicago, IL
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2 days onsite per week)
Compensation: $85-$90/hour 

Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer / Technical Lead to support the design, development, and deployment of large-scale enterprise digital platforms. This role is ideal for a hands-on backend engineer with strong experience building scalable, cloud-native applications using Java 17, Spring Boot, microservices, RESTful APIs, and AWS.

The ideal candidate will have a strong backend development background, experience supporting high-availability systems, and the ability to contribute to architecture discussions while remaining hands-on with coding, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment. This person will also work closely with cross-functional teams, mentor developers, and help drive strong software quality and engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Java 17 and Spring Boot
• Build scalable microservices and RESTful APIs for enterprise-level platforms
• Develop cloud-based solutions using AWS services such as DynamoDB, Kinesis, IAM, SQS, SNS, and KMS
• Support application design, architecture discussions, integration testing, and production troubleshooting
• Collaborate with distributed teams to deliver reliable, high-quality software solutions
• Mentor junior developers and promote strong coding standards and development practices

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of Java software development experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 17, Spring Boot, microservices, and RESTful web services
• Backend development experience is required
• AWS experience with services such as IAM, Kinesis, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, and KMS
• Strong SQL/database development experience
• DevOps experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Maven, or Gradle
• Experience building high-availability and reliable software solutions
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
