Title: IT Solutions Engineer

Location: Colorado Springs, CO 80903, (Hybrid)

Description

The primary role of the IT Solutions Engineer is to design and deliver IT solutions that meet the operational needs and strategic objectives of the City of Colorado Springs. The engineer will work to translate customer requirements into functional designs by researching potential solutions and submitting budgetary proposals. Once approved, they will take the technical lead in the implementation process with support from an IT Project Manager. The Solutions Engineer is expected to ensure that all delivered solutions are secure, business-aligned, and adhere to established technology standards. They will support a unified operating environment and user interaction model, utilizing city-supported technology platforms to deliver quality at scale. The areas of focus include but are not limited to, networking, systems, applications, hardware and infrastructure, cyber security, backup, recovery and archiving, data storage, virtualization, and cloud. The Solutions Engineer will collaborate closely with the IT Business Relationship Manager (BRM) to ensure accurate requirement documentation and mutual understanding, leading to the creation and acceptance of optimal business solutions. The role demands strong solution engineering skills, design development, analytical abilities, technology research, deployment expertise, and effective business communication. The ultimate objective of the Solutions Engineer is to maximize business value from IT investments for both the IT department and our customers.

65% Design: Ensure that developed hardware, software or loT solutions meet the requirements of the Business and fit within Architecture based on industry best practices. Develop Rough Order Magnitude (RoM) estimates and Solution Designs by working with cross-functional teams and vendors to define business service request requirements, solutions, and schedules. Work with the BRM, translate business requirements into fully engineered solution designs that can be implemented on current and future City Information Technology (IT). Partner with the BRM to understand business unit strategy and develop strategic and tactical solutions. Lead the engineering design of solutions, ensuring functionality, availability, capacity, system and data security, integration, infrastructure, operations and maintenance, and performance. Ensure quality control methods are applied to delivered solutions. Assist PMs with project close create documentation to include as-built design, knowledge articles, how-to's, as well as transition support to operations of completed solutions.

10% Coordinate with other IT Teams: When matrixed support for solution research or development is required. Formulate and execute solutions for customers across all multiple current and future service offerings. Drive an end-to-end solution development lifecycle. Enable our customers to better understand the scope of IT solutions and the business value and efficiencies.

10% Support service management: Support the service management culture across the technology organization. Investigate IT hardware, software, and services that might support one or more City business processes. Provide expert level support when needed by other teams within IT to solve complex problems or support design implementations.
