Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Provides college-wide information technology (IT) support services to the College of Social Sciences (CSS) that support academics and research.
  • *Recommends, advises, and assesses computer and network systems for the CSS.
  • *Serves as a primary point of contact for CSS IT hardware and software services, including but limited to desktops, laptops, mobile devices, operating systems, and applications.
  • *Performs hardware, software, network and end-user problem diagnostics, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • *Makes recommendations to update existing IT procedures and guidelines for CSS.
  • *Responsible for configuration, installation, and maintenance of computer systems, servers, and college-wide instructional and research computer lab facilities.
  • *Responsible for preliminary review and maintenance of work areas amenable to installation and utilization of IT resources and operational requirements.
  • *Provides consultation to faculty and staff regarding selection and purchase of hardware and software resources.
  • *Trains faculty, staff, and students on IT related resources, including but not limited to instructional and research equipment, administrative software, mandatory training and certifications, etc.
  • *Participates in fiscal and budget planning for the CSS IT.
  • *Works on project teams and utilizes project management techniques for planning and completing tasks.
  • *Provides status updates, written reports, and documentation and communicates to team members and stakeholders.
  • *Follows and implements directives and guidance related to best practices from University of Hawaii (UH) System IT Services.
  • *Ensures the consistent adoption, implementation, and enforcement of recommendations issued through UH System IT Services.
  • *Keeps abreast of recommendations issued through UH System IT Services, and takes timely action as needed.
  • *Continuously monitors and leads initiatives to enhance system reliability, security, and operational efficiency. Supervises and mentors IT staff to assure that administrative directives and industry best practices are understood and followed.
  • Supervises student assistants.
  • Work outside of normal business hours including weekends and/or holidays as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity/Network Security, Computer Information Systems, Management/Business Information Systems or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for IT hardware, software support, application systems, and/or database management, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower pay band in the University of Hawaii broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of information technology as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with IT hardware, software support, application systems, and/or database management.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
  • Proven ability to comprehend, interpret and implement administrative directives and guidance to ensure IT operations align with organizational standards and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Strong understanding of IT service management, cybersecurity principles, risk management, and compliance requirements. Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining IT best practices, standards, and governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a service-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize, and implement applicable tasks or projects in relation to established goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server[c] Operating System (OS), Mac Operating System (macOS), Microsoft Structured Query Language (MS SQL) Server database, Active Directory, Information Security Systems (IIS), and/or Networking.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with IT support for electronic health records.
