About The Community Group (TCG):

The Community Group (TCG) is a private non-profit organization, based in Lawrence, MA whose mission is to create, manage, and nurture high-quality programs focused on education and related services that support families. TCG was founded in 1970 as the Community Day Care Center of Lawrence, and has grown to manage a successful charter public school (Community Day Charter Public School), early education and care programs, out-of-school time programming, and workforce development initiatives.

About the Program / Department:

The IT Department provides on-site and remote technical support to over 500 staff members and supports more than 1,000 devices across TCG and CDCPS programs. The team works collaboratively across multiple locations to ensure reliable access to technology for staff and students.

Job Summary:

The IT Summer Intern will support the IT team during peak summer operations, with a primary focus on hands-on device refresh and classroom technology readiness across school sites. This role is ideal for candidates interested in gaining practical experience in large-scale IT operations within an educational environment.

Interns will play a key role in preparing devices, classrooms, and staff technology setups for summer programs and the upcoming school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Device Refresh & Deployment (Primary Focus)

  • Perform hands-on device refresh work across multiple school sites, including imaging, configuring, cleaning, and testing laptops and Chromebooks
  • Assist with large-scale device collection, servicing, and redistribution efforts
  • Support preparation of devices for new hires, summer programs, and fall onboarding
  • Ensure all devices meet readiness standards prior to the start of the school year

School Site & Classroom Technology Setup

  • Support on-site classroom setup and closeout across multiple locations
  • Set up teacher workstations, student devices, and peripherals
  • Verify device quantities align with classroom and student needs
  • Complete classroom setup work within defined timeframes

Inventory & Asset Management

  • Track and organize IT inventory across school sites
  • Update asset records and maintain accurate device counts
  • Identify and organize surplus or replacement equipment
  • Maintain clean and organized storage and deployment areas

Documentation & Operational Support

  • Assist with updating IT documentation and procedures
  • Support inventory cleanup and device standardization efforts
  • Help ensure consistency across classrooms and school sites
  • Interest in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Comfort working hands-on with hardware and devices
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow processes
  • Ability to work onsite and travel between locations as needed
  • Reliable, organized, and able to complete tasks efficiently

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Experience with Chromebooks, laptops, or device setup
  • Familiarity with basic IT concepts
  • Interest in working in education or nonprofit environments

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move IT equipment (e.g., laptops, carts, boxes)
  • Must be able to work a consistent full-time schedule for the duration of the internship
  • Reliable transportation to travel between sites

Background Check Requirement:

Work Environment: This onsite role involves working across multiple school locations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The position includes hands-on work with technology devices, classroom setups, inventory management, and occasional lifting and moving of equipment. Travel between sites is required.
