    Job Description

    $59,000–$62,000 | Primarily Remote + Local Client Support | Full-Time

IMPORTANT: This position supports a client in Greenport, NY. Candidates must currently live on Long Island and be able to reliably reach Greenport within approximately 60 minutes in normal weekday traffic.

If you're an IT support professional who has moved beyond simply resetting passwords and routing tickets, but you're not looking to spend your entire day buried in high-level infrastructure engineering, this may be exactly the sweet spot.

We're looking for an IT Support Specialist to become the primary day-to-day technical resource for an important client in Greenport, NY.

Most of your work can be performed remotely. But when the client needs someone onsite, you are the person who shows up.

That means we're looking for someone who is technically capable, highly dependable, comfortable working independently and — equally important — excellent with people.

    What Makes This Role Different

You won't be sitting in a large help desk environment answering an endless queue of anonymous tickets.

You'll get to know your users.

    You'll understand their environment.

    You'll recognize recurring problems.

And over time, you'll become the person they trust when something isn't working.

You'll have the backing of an experienced technical team based in Albany for larger or more complex issues, while taking ownership of day-to-day IT support for the Greenport-area client.

For someone with a few years of IT support experience who is ready for more ownership, visibility and independence, this is a great next step.

    What You'll Do

You'll provide hands-on and remote technical support across the client's day-to-day IT environment, including:

    • Troubleshooting Windows desktop and laptop issues
    • Supporting Microsoft 365 applications and user accounts
    • Diagnosing hardware, software, connectivity and access issues
    • Supporting printers, mobile devices, peripherals and related equipment
    • Managing help desk tickets from initial request through resolution
    • Performing software updates, routine maintenance and minor upgrades
    • Troubleshooting basic network and connectivity issues
    • Setting up and supporting users, devices and workstations
    • Providing clear, patient technology support to employees with varying levels of technical knowledge
    • Documenting issues, troubleshooting steps and resolutions
    • Identifying recurring problems and recommending better solutions
    • Coordinating with senior technical resources when an issue requires escalation
    • Traveling to the Greenport client site when hands-on support is needed

    Who We're Looking For

This is not an entry-level IT position.

We're looking for someone who already has a solid technical foundation and can independently work through the majority of everyday user-support issues.

You may currently be working as a:

Help Desk Technician • Desktop Support Technician • IT Support Specialist • Technical Support Specialist • Tier 2 Support Technician • Field Service Technician

You probably have 2–4 years of professional IT support experience and are ready for a position where you're trusted to own more of the relationship.

    The right person will be:

    • Technically curious and naturally good at troubleshooting
    • Comfortable working independently without constant supervision
    • Professional and polished enough to work directly with a client
    • Patient with nontechnical users
    • Able to explain technology without overwhelming people with jargon
    • Organized enough to manage multiple tickets and priorities
    • Proactive rather than waiting for someone to tell them what to do next
    • Comfortable saying, "Let me figure this out," and then actually figuring it out

    Technical Experience

We're particularly interested in experience with:

    • Windows desktop environments
    • Microsoft 365 administration and troubleshooting
    • PC/laptop hardware and software troubleshooting
    • User accounts, permissions and access issues
    • Basic networking, TCP/IP and connectivity troubleshooting
    • Printers and peripheral devices
    • Ticketing/service-management platforms
    • Remote support tools
    • Technical documentation

IT certifications or a technical degree are welcomed, but hands-on professional experience matters most.

Location Requirement — Please Read Before Applying

This is a primarily remote position, but it is not a work-from-anywhere position.

The client you will support is located in Greenport, NY on the North Fork of Long Island, and onsite support will be required when an issue cannot be resolved remotely.

Because responsiveness is an important part of this position:

You must currently live on Long Island and be able to reliably reach Greenport within approximately one hour in normal weekday traffic.

    You must also have:

    • A valid New York State driver's license
    • Reliable personal transportation
    • The ability and willingness to travel to the Greenport client site as needed

If you live several hours away and are looking for a fully remote IT position, this won't be the right fit.

    Compensation

    $59,000–$62,000 annually, based on experience.

This is an opportunity to earn competitive IT support compensation while working primarily from home, without commuting into New York City every day.

Why This Could Be a Great Next Move

You get the independence of remote work without disappearing into a massive corporate IT department.

You'll own an important client relationship, have direct visibility with your technical leadership and get exposure to a broader range of technology than you might encounter in a narrowly defined help desk position.

You'll also have experienced technical resources behind you when you encounter something that genuinely needs to be escalated.

The ideal person for this role doesn't want to answer Tier 1 tickets forever.

You want to become the person a client trusts to say:

    "I've got it."

If that sounds like you — and you're already based on Long Island within easy reach of Greenport — we'd like to talk.
