About the Position
This position is with the Mississippi Library Commission and is located in Hinds County. The official MSPB classification title is Client Support Technician II. The working title for this position is Information Technology (IT) Support Technician. The incumbent will provide technical support to Mississippi Library Commission (MLC) staff and public libraries throughout the state. Duties include troubleshooting technical issues of moderate complexity, assisting with workstation deployment, supporting general information technology infrastructure, and helping maintain reliable technology services for Mississippi libraries. The incumbent will also assist with network and technology assessments in public libraries and support E-Rate Category 2 technology upgrades. E-Rate is a federal program that helps eligible schools and libraries obtain affordable telecommunications and internet access. Category 2 services generally support internal network infrastructure, such as switches, routers, wireless access points, cabling, and related equipment. This position requires familiarity with networking hardware, workstation setup, general IT infrastructure, technology documentation, and coordination with MLC IT staff to support agency and statewide library technology projects.

Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires High School Diploma or high school equivalency and relevant technical knowledge, an understanding of office automation and office systems operating environments and/or complex communication devices and 1-3 years of end user support experience. May require a valid Mississippi driver's license.
Characteristics of Work
This is technical information technology support work involving troubleshooting, workstation support, user assistance, technology deployment, and support of network and infrastructure-related projects. The incumbent provides assistance to internal agency users and external library partners, helps resolve technical issues of moderate complexity, maintains documentation, and supports technology services and infrastructure projects under the guidance of higher-level information technology staff.

Examples of work include providing technical support to Mississippi Library Commission staff and public libraries; troubleshooting hardware, software, network, and workstation issues; assisting with workstation deployment, configuration, and maintenance; supporting network infrastructure projects and technology upgrades; assisting with technology assessments for public libraries; documenting technical issues, resolutions, equipment information, and project activities; supporting E-Rate Category 2 internal network infrastructure projects; coordinating with agency IT staff, vendors, and library personnel; assisting with installation or replacement of networking hardware and related equipment; providing user guidance on routine technology issues; and performing related duties as assigned.

Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience.
