IT Systems Administrator

International Minerals Carlsbad LLC is seeking an experienced, hands-on IT Systems Administrator to support the technology infrastructure of its mining and industrial operation in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

This position is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, securing, and troubleshooting the site’s systems, networks, endpoints, and business applications. This is not solely a help-desk role. The successful candidate must be able to independently diagnose systems, network, hardware, software, access, and security issues while coordinating with vendors and other technical resources when needed.

Essential Responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft Windows systems, servers, workstations, laptops, mobile devices, and related infrastructure.
• Maintain Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, user accounts, permissions, security groups, and organizational units.
• Support Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Outlook, Microsoft Entra ID, cloud services, and multifactor authentication.
• Monitor and troubleshoot LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, routing, switching, firewall, and internet-connectivity issues.
• Support network equipment, structured cabling, and fiber-optic infrastructure.
• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot operating systems, applications, endpoints, and peripherals.
• Support cybersecurity controls, including endpoint protection, encryption, access management, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening.
• Monitor system and network availability, performance, storage capacity, and overall infrastructure health.
• Maintain backup and recovery processes and assist with disaster-recovery and business-continuity testing.
• Provide responsive technical support for hardware, software, email, network, access, printer, and peripheral issues.
• Manage and document support requests through Zendesk or a comparable ticketing platform.
• Support Autodesk products, including AutoCAD and related engineering applications, when applicable.
• Maintain accurate inventories of hardware, software, licenses, network devices, and other technology assets.
• Maintain system configurations, network diagrams, technical procedures, and troubleshooting documentation.
• Coordinate with technology, telecommunications, internet, software, and equipment vendors.
• Respond to technology disruptions affecting office, maintenance, engineering, warehouse, and operational activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Three to five or more years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, network administration, IT infrastructure, or a related technical role.
• Strong experience supporting Microsoft Windows environments.
• Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, user accounts, permissions, and security groups.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and Microsoft cloud technologies.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, VLANs, VPNs, Wi-Fi, routing, and switching.
• Experience supporting servers, endpoints, printers, peripherals, and network equipment.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, endpoint protection, encryption, identity management, patching, and access controls.
• Experience supporting backup and recovery technologies.
• Experience using Zendesk or a comparable IT service-management platform.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize issues based on operational impact.

Preferred Qualifications

• IT experience within mining, manufacturing, engineering, energy, construction, utilities, or another industrial environment.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Intune, VMware, or Hyper-V.
• Experience supporting firewalls, managed switches, wireless networks, and fiber-optic infrastructure.
• Experience supporting Autodesk or AutoCAD applications.
• Familiarity with PowerShell, automation, system monitoring, disaster recovery, and IT asset management.
• Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, VMware, or comparable technical certification.

Work Environment

This is an on-site position supporting an active mining and industrial operation. The IT Systems Administrator must be comfortable providing technology support across office and operational areas and responding with urgency when technology disruptions affect business or operational activities.
