IT Systems Engineer 

Department: Information Technology 

Reports To: IT Systems Manager 

Position Summary 

The IT Systems Engineer is a key contributor to the secure, reliable, and people‑centered technology environment that powers Fairmount Park Casino & Racing. This individual ensures the availability, integrity, and compliance of core infrastructure supporting casino gaming systems, pari‑mutuel wagering, racing operations, administrative functions, and guest‑facing technologies. 

This role blends advanced technical capability with strong communication, empathy for end users, and a commitment to operational excellence in a fast‑paced, highly regulated gaming environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

Casino, Wagering & Racing Technology Support 

  • Ensure stability and uptime of technology supporting casino operations, racing systems, wagering terminals, cage operations, player systems, and other mission‑critical gaming infrastructure. 

  • Troubleshoot system, network, and hardware issues with urgency and an understanding of their impact on live casino operations, revenue‑producing systems, and guest experience. 

  • Serve as an escalation point for IT Systems Analysts and Administrators and frontline support, assisting with complex technical issues and providing training as needed. 

Regulatory, Security & Compliance 

  • Perform duties related to the Illinois Gaming Board’s Adopted Rules, Minimum Internal Controls and property internal control systems. 

  • Maintain strong adherence to SOX controls, gaming regulations, security standards, and internal audit requirements. 

  • Monitor technology environments for security anomalies, breaches, or data integrity issues. 

Infrastructure Engineering & Administration 

  • Manage and maintain on‑premises and cloud‑connected servers, storage, virtualization, network systems, and backup infrastructure. 

  • Perform system analysis, gathering requirements from user departments and operational teams to deliver functional, high‑impact solutions. 

  • Develop, configure, and test system modifications, parameters, and enhancements based on operational and regulatory needs. 

  • Maintain up‑to‑date inventories of hardware, software, licenses, and configuration data. 

User Access, Support & Technology Enablement 

  • Provide authorized user access provisioning and deprovisioning, especially roles tied to casino operations, wagering platforms, and financial systems. 

  • Train team members and end users on the use of technologies that enhance their productivity and support regulatory compliance. 

  • Communicate clearly and proactively with operational leadership when issues arise, especially during live gaming, racing, or wagering windows. 

Operational Reliability & Lifecycle Management 

  • Investigate and resolve technology issues with a focus on minimizing operational downtime. 

  • Maintain logs, repair records, and documentation for maintenance activities. 

  • Manage IP address documentation and network organization. 

  • Support secure hardware lifecycle processes, ensuring proper sanitization and disposal in alignment with gaming and compliance standards. 

  • Maintain and test system backups and recovery procedures for all critical systems. 

Qualifications 

Education & Experience 

  • 3–5+ years of experience in IT systems engineering, infrastructure administration, or a similar technical role. 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary licensing. 

  • Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, networking fundamentals, and enterprise backup technologies. 

  • Experience supporting technology in regulated or high‑availability environments (gaming, wagering, finance, hospitality, racing, etc.). 

Skills & Competencies 

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on user experience and communication. 

  • Ability to work effectively in high‑pressure situations, including live casino and racing operations. 

  • Strong documentation habits and commitment to process consistency. 

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to mentor, guide, and support junior staff. 

Physical and Mental Demands:

· Regularly required to see, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stand and walk.

· Frequently required to stoop, and kneel.

· Must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

· Able to interact with others while maintaining a positive and courteous demeanor.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $70,000 - $90,000 per year (based on experience)
