IT Systems Engineer II

Our client is looking for a SYSTEMS ENGINEER located in Metro Detroit, MI.

SUMMARY
Our client is seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer to support and maintain core infrastructure environments including Hyper-V, Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), Windows Server, and enterprise security platforms. This individual will operate within a small, high-responsibility IT team and will be expected to take full ownership of systems, troubleshooting efforts, infrastructure stability, and ongoing improvements with minimal oversight. This is a highly technical, production-focused environment requiring strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work independently within mission-critical systems. This is a 100% onsite opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Own and support Hyper-V environments including hosts, virtual machines, clustering, and performance management
Administer and maintain Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) environments including resiliency, health monitoring, and capacity planning
Support Windows Server infrastructure including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, patching, and file services
Manage and support Palo Alto firewall environments including NAT, VPNs, security policies, and network segmentation
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues across compute, storage, networking, and systems layers
Support and stabilize VisualCron automation and job processing environments
Support infrastructure related to IIS, SQL-based applications, and eGAMS environments
Provide Tier 2 / Tier 3 support with ownership of escalated production issues through resolution
Execute infrastructure upgrades, deployments, migrations, and system changes with minimal supervision
Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative corrective actions
Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and system records

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
4 7 years of experience within systems administration or infrastructure engineering environments
Strong hands-on experience supporting Hyper-V production environments
Experience with clustering, high availability, and infrastructure resiliency
Experience supporting enterprise firewall platforms, preferably Palo Alto
Strong troubleshooting capabilities across servers, storage, virtualization, and networking layers
Experience supporting uptime-sensitive production environments
PowerShell or scripting experience for automation and troubleshooting required
Experience with Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), SQL Server, IIS, or infrastructure migrations preferred
Ability to balance operational support responsibilities alongside project-based infrastructure initiatives
Ability to work onsite 5 days per week with occasional after-hours support as needed
