Our client is a growing aerospace and defense manufacturer that engineers and produces precision-engineered hardware, tooling, and components for advanced aerospace and defense programs. Backed by a global private-equity firm, the company is scaling rapidly to meet rising demand and is investing across its operations, talent, and technology. This search is being conducted on a confidential basis. The hiring company’s identity will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process.

Position Summary

The IT Systems Manager leads the day-to-day technology operations for the Company’s facility. This hands-on leader owns infrastructure, networks, systems administration, end-user support, and cybersecurity compliance in an ITAR-controlled aerospace manufacturing environment. The role is responsible for keeping a growing engineering and production operation running securely and reliably while helping mature IT processes and CMMC / NIST 800-171 readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage on-site IT infrastructure: servers, virtualization, storage, networking, firewalls, wireless, and endpoint fleet.
  • Administer Microsoft environments (Active Directory / Entra ID, Windows Server, Microsoft 365) and core business systems.
  • Lead the help-desk and end-user support function, setting standards for responsiveness, onboarding/offboarding, and ticket resolution.
  • Support and enforce cybersecurity controls aligned to NIST SP 800-171 / CMMC, including ITAR/EAR data handling, access control, patching, and backup/disaster recovery.
  • Manage system monitoring, performance, capacity, and uptime for engineering and manufacturing systems.
  • Coordinate vendors, managed-service providers, licensing, and IT procurement.
  • Maintain documentation, asset inventory, and standard operating procedures.
  • Partner with engineering and operations to support shop-floor and lab technology needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years in IT systems administration with at least 2 years in a lead or management capacity.
  • Strong hands-on skills across Windows Server, networking, virtualization, and Microsoft 365.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity compliance frameworks (NIST 800-171, CMMC, ISO, or similar).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aerospace, defense, or other regulated manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with ITAR/EAR and DFARS data-handling requirements.
  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA Security+, Microsoft, Cisco, CISSP).
  • Experience supporting engineering / CAD / PLM or manufacturing (MES/ERP) systems.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range of $110,000 – $130,000, commensurate with experience, plus medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), and paid time off. Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Work Authorization & Eligibility

This position supports ITAR- and EAR-controlled programs. Applicants must be a “U.S. Person” as defined under 22 CFR §120.62 (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual). The facility is access-controlled and the role is subject to a background check and, for certain programs, eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected-veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
