Mission Statement: The mission of the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board (LAPELS) is to safeguard life, health, and property and to promote the public welfare of the citizens of Louisiana. The Board accomplishes this by licensing and regulating individuals and firms that offer or provide engineering and land surveying services in the state.

About this Position:

The IT Technical Specialist must demonstrate the highest standards of integrity, ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality while supporting the mission of LAPELS and safeguarding sensitive licensure, disciplinary, and agency information. The position requires adaptability and flexibility to effectively support an evolving regulatory environment, including changes in board membership, agency staff, technology platforms, and business processes.

The successful candidate must work effectively as part of a collaborative IT team while building positive relationships with non-technical staff and promoting user adoption of technology solutions. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential when interacting with board members, applicants, licensees, staff and the public.

The position requires the ability to coordinate multiple projects, collaborate with software developers and vendors, troubleshoot technical issues, and provide training and guidance on new systems, processes, and technology updates.

Minimum Qualifications

Six years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

An associates degree in information technology plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus three years of experience in information technology; OR

A master's degree plus three years of experience in information technology.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NOTE:

A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

The LAPELS Board oversees the licensure and disciplinary processes for individuals applying for or renewing Professional Engineer (PE)and /or Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)licenses.

The Board is supported by a small staff that manages its day-to-day operations. The IT Technical Specialist is classified as a CPG position and reports directly to the LAPELSIT Director.

  • Provideon-sitetechnicalsupportserviceswith24/availability to the LAPELS Board, staff, licensees, and public. Always assess the IT environment and recommend improvements (hardware, software) when necessary.
  • Provides support of on-site applications systems, including Laserfiche, LOLA, CAVU, and other custom applications, to include development, test, and production sites. This includes application testing and staff training.
  • Generate or update custom queries in T-SQL as needed for regular and periodic reports, as well as in conjunction with email blasts, LaserficheWorkflow, and Zoom webinar data import/reconciliation.
  • ManageMicrosoft365BusinessPremiumaccountforallusers, to include Office applications, Entra, Intune, and Defender.
