The University of South Carolina is seeking an Interim Director of Research Computing to lead a comprehensive organizational transformation initiative. Position Overview

This is a 6-month contract position with the possibility for extension. The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days onsite per week. Candidates must be residents of SC, NC, GA, or willing to relocate to SC at their own expense.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for departmental operations and research technology infrastructure.
• Supervise managers, professional, and student staff.
• Lead organizational change initiatives and culture transformation efforts.
• Coordinate departmental budgets and strategic resource allocation.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and regulatory obligations.
• Develop succession planning and transition documentation for permanent leadership.

Requirements

• 8 years of experience leading organizational transformation and change management.
• 8 years of experience leading large, complex technology projects.
• 8 years of experience with personnel management and performance accountability.
• Bachelor's degree required.

Preferences

• Experience with research cyberinfrastructure and high-performance computing.
• Experience implementing governance and operational maturity frameworks.
• Experience managing organizational change in higher education.
• Master's degree in science, technology, or a related field preferred.
• Certifications: ITIL, Cloud Infrastructure (AWS/Azure), AI Infrastructure (AWS/Azure/Google).
• Training on HPC Technologies (Slurm, Infiniband) and Carpentries Instructor certification.
