DESCRIPTION: An itinerant paraprofessional travels between schools, classrooms, or student locations to provide instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities or other special needs. The Special Education Para demonstrates strong skills in dealing with behavior. You will be supporting buildings across the district with students who exhibit challenging behaviors. You may also be providing direct services to students who are unable to attend school. These services could be provided in the community or in the home.

SALARY: Classified Grade L, $21.66 per hour to start, depending on relevant experience. 8.5 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday, 9 month work schedule, paid over 12 months. Position is eligible for benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carry out individual behavior plans.
• Provide support and follow up instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Assist students with implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Collect and document student progress and behavior data.
• Assist students with transitions between classes and school activities.
• Provide personal care assistance, such as toileting, feeding, or mobility support, when required.
• Travel between assigned schools or educational sites according to a daily schedule.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with school policies and federal regulations.
• Follow district procedures for safety, emergency response, and mandated reporting.
• Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as Behavior Intervention Plans, IEPs, and staff and student handbooks.
• Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic math, including algebra and geometry.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred at time of hire or able to obtain within 2 months of hire.
• Must be able to pass a post offer, pre-employment physical.
• Must be able to pass a Colorado and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.

Because itinerant paraprofessionals work at multiple locations, they are also expected to:

• Manage their time efficiently between assignments.
• Communicate effectively with multiple teachers and administrators.
• Be flexible and adapt quickly to different classrooms and student needs.
• Maintain reliable transportation if travel is required by the school district.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with students with social and/or emotional disabilities preferred but not required.
• Skills in crisis management, flexibility, patience and ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
• Valid driver's license is required to obtain a small vehicle permit, if required to transport students.
