The University of South Carolina - School of Medicine Greenville is seeking to hire an ITOR Laboratory Manager.

The ITOR Laboratory Manager is responsible for facilitating the operations of multiple laboratories in a common space, ensuring a collaborative research environment, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. This position entails working closely with the Prisma Health Cancer Institute and BMS Department research leadership to maintain operational efficiency and facilitate the onboarding process for new faculty, staff and students.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a master's degree in area of research specialty.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Academic and/or Hospital Laboratory environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships across clinical, research, and ITOR communities
  • Knowledge of project management principles with the ability to manage multiple, diverse projects simultaneously
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise staff while maintaining professionalism and effective working relationships
  • Strong communication skills with a commitment to respectful, collaborative engagement
  • Ability to analyze complex data, develop effective data collection methods, and present findings clearly
  • Proficiency in designing and modifying reports and coordinating workflows across user groups
  • Ability to work independently and train/support staff in system use

Job Duties

Job Duty

Operations Oversight and Onboarding:

  • Coordinate with the Cancer Institute and USCSOMG ITOR labs to facilitate new staff and/or student onboarding, including badge and access requests, obtaining keys, and submitting work orders.
  • Ensure lab space and resource availability, order or replace equipment, and resolve general laboratory issues as needed.
  • Support summer research preparations in collaboration with staff and faculty.

Laboratory Operations:

  • Ensure laboratory testing and processes are conducted safely and in compliance with quality protocols and project requirements.
  • Monitor or coordinate training and resource utilization of laboratory staff.
  • Facilitate maintenance, installation of equipment, and maintain workflows to meet deadlines and benchmarks.
  • Coordinate shared equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Maintain inventory, obtain supplies, and ensure proper organization and appearance of laboratory areas.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects, including waste disposal.
  • Coordinate orientation for new tenants and lab space availability.
  • Coordinate lab tenant meetings and serve as the resource for day-to-day needs and issues.
  • Coordinate equipment preventive maintenance, repairs, removal, and disposal.
  • Order new equipment as needed and approved and coordinate new equipment delivery and setup.

Confocal Microscope Operation:

  • Proficiently operate and maintain the confocal microscope system in the SOMG ITOR Laboratory.
  • Provide technical support, training, and ongoing guidance to lab members in using the microscope.
  • Ensure microscope calibration, alignment, and routine inspections for proper functioning.
  • Assist in data management, quality assurance, and documentation related to microscope usage.
