Job Description:
The Ethicon, Inc. business, a part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for R&D Engineering & Data Science Co-ops for the fall 2026 term located in Cincinnati, OH, to help transform the landscape of surgery.
Responsibilities:
As an Engineering & Data Science co-op in the R&D business, you will have the opportunity to:
• Perform analysis of structured and unstructured surgical data sets, uncovering insights for Robotics, Handheld Instruments, or Digital Products R&D engineering teams. • Contribute to product conceptualization efforts for brand new surgical tools and platforms. • Write software that enables collaborative data analysis and ensure data quality. • Develop and carry out mechanical, electrical, and biological tissue laboratory experiments. • Design and optimize data visualizations for stakeholders.
Contribution as a member of a team with mentorship from seasoned Hardware Engineers, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists.
You will have the opportunity to use state of the art tools and take advantage of training courses offered on-site and virtually.
Responsibilities will increase with each rotation as you learn more by returning to school. Rotations are generally 3-4 months and availability for multiple rotations is desired.
We offer a competitive wage and housing assistance to non-local students that live 50+ miles from the site.
All co-ops that qualify for housing assistance will receive a one-time taxable stipend to support the cost of living during the co-op term.
Prior to the start date all co-ops will be connected with other incoming co-ops and provided with housing resources to individually secure housing arrangements.
Transportation is not provided; all co-ops are responsible for securing their own transportation to and from the site daily.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Be enrolled in an accredited college/institution pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or similar) or in a Computing discipline (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or similar) with strong background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering principles. • Must have completed a minimum of two semesters in school prior to the beginning of the co-op term (class standing of a sophomore or above). • Considered a student during the co-op term, must not have a graduation date prior to the start of the co-op term. • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0. • Demonstrate proficiency in Python. • Demonstrate leadership/participation in campus programs and/or community service activities. • Demonstrate strong interest in healthcare. • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for the full duration of the co-op term. • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
