Description
Performs intermediate protective service work maintaining safety and security in the County Jail, managing the transportation of inmates, administering and discharging inmates, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Jail Administrator.

Essential Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in corrections, law enforcement, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates/Technical degree preferred. Obtain Jailer certification within 1 year of hire. Obtain Automated External Defibrillator, first aid, mental health and suicide prevention, intoximeter, Taser, defense spray, and self-contained breathing apparatus training within 1 year of hire. Valid drivers license in the State of Wisconsin.

Thorough knowledge of County and department policies and procedures to include emergency and inclement weather policies; ability to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects; attention to detail and ability to effectively organize time and anticipate, plan and successfully respond to changing circumstances; thorough knowledge of jail facility safety and security policies and procedures; ability to safely and securely moves inmates in emergency and non-emergency situations; thorough knowledge of the distribution of all prescription and non-prescription drugs as directed by the Jail Nurse; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to operate and use standard office equipment; knowledge and ability to use standard office and position-specific software; ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other departments and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling and lifting, frequently requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting and pushing or pulling; work requires distance vision and ability to adjust focus; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
