Job Purpose
General upkeep of the office building. Making certain the building is clean and in orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include notifying management of need for repairs and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalks. Job duties may include vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, and small repair work. This position reports to the shift supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
Gather and empty trash.
Service clean and supply restrooms.
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies either manually or by using hand trucks.
Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas using snowplows, snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow-melting chemicals. Entry way only as needed.
Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation.
Other duties as required by supervisor.
Other Requirements
Basic Knowledge of repair techniques or job training alongside and experienced custodian.
Advanced Skills:
Sanitation for Food Facility Finishing Refinishing Floors Forklift Driver
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Education and/or Experience Required
High School Diploma or general education diploma GED.
At least 6 months experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and write. Ability to effectively follow orders and respond to questions from management.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to occasionally reach, lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to crouch or crawl under a 48" high shelf.
Ability to ascend and descend a 14" step.
Must be able to activate phone systems utilizing keyboards and buttons.
Regularly works in an indoor office environment and required to sit and/or use repetitive hand motion.
Frequently required to talk, hear, stand, and walk.
Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.
Must have the ability to read and discern visual images with 2020 corrected vision.
Must be able to speak and communicate clearly over telephones.
Must be in sound physical health as determined by a certified licensed physician with no evidence of the use of controlled substances.
