Job Summary

The Janitorial Cleaner is responsible for maintaining clean, sanitary, and orderly conditions within a medical facility. This position performs hospital-level cleaning and disinfection of patient-care, procedure, administrative, restroom, and common areas in accordance with facility procedures, infection-prevention requirements, and applicable Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) standards. This role requires a highly dependable and detail-oriented individual with previous experience cleaning in a hospital, surgical center, or comparable healthcare environment. The employee may encounter blood, bodily fluids, contaminated materials, and other potentially infectious substances and must be able to work safely and professionally in these conditions.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect patient-care areas, procedure rooms, examination rooms, restrooms, offices, waiting rooms, breakrooms, and other assigned spaces.
• Perform routine and terminal cleaning in accordance with facility procedures and ASC cleaning requirements.
• Clean and disinfect areas exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials using established protocols.
• Follow infection-prevention procedures, including required cleaning sequences, disinfectant contact times, hand-hygiene practices, and cross-contamination controls.
• Use cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, equipment, and personal protective equipment safely and as directed.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and otherwise maintain floors throughout assigned areas.
• Dust, clean, and disinfect appropriate surfaces, including counters, fixtures, furniture, and other high-touch areas.
• Empty waste receptacles, replace liners, and handle potentially contaminated or regulated waste according to training and facility procedures.
• Replenish restroom, breakroom, sanitation, and other assigned supplies.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in a clean, organized, and serviceable condition.
• Complete cleaning logs, checklists, and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
• Immediately report spills, exposure incidents, safety hazards, damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, or infection-control issues to the supervisor.
• Maintain patient privacy and conduct work professionally around patients, visitors, medical personnel, and sensitive healthcare activities.
• Report to work reliably and punctually and maintain assigned cleaning coverage without disrupting patient care or facility operations.
• Follow all company policies, facility procedures, safety requirements, and exposure-control protocols.

Qualifications

• Previous janitorial or environmental-services experience in a hospital, surgical center, medical office, or comparable healthcare setting is required.
• Knowledge of hospital-level cleaning, terminal-cleaning procedures, infection prevention, cross-contamination control, and ASC cleaning expectations.
• Ability and willingness to work in areas where blood, bodily fluids, contaminated materials, and other potentially infectious substances may be present.
• Ability to follow bloodborne-pathogen precautions and properly use required personal protective equipment.
• Demonstrated dependability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining healthcare-level cleanliness and sanitation standards.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, proper dilution, required contact times, and safe chemical handling.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete required cleaning documentation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with supervisors, clinical personnel, and other team members.
• Ability to perform physical duties, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
• Ability to successfully complete required safety, infection-control, and bloodborne-pathogen training.
• Ability to pass a background check.
