Position: Java Developer
Location: Chicago, IL
Duration: 6+ Months

PURPOSE:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Java Developer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will support and enhance modern microservices-based applications built on Java and Spring Boot. You will work across multiple teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure services. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about development and eager to grow in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, support, and troubleshoot microservices using Java and Spring Boot 3/4
Build and consume RESTful APIs, adhering to best practices and standards
Collaborate with the DevOps team to deploy applications in Kubernetes environments
Leverage observability tools for application monitoring and logging
Contribute to building and maintaining event-driven architectures (e.g., using messaging queues)
Document and expose APIs using tools like Swagger/OpenAPI
Work with API gateways to manage and secure API traffic
Implement and support OAuth for secure authentication and authorization
Learn and adapt to new tools and technologies as needed

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:
Proficiency in Java
Experience with Spring Boot and building RESTful web services
Experience using Git for source control
Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration tools
Understanding of microservices architecture
Exposure to observability platforms (Datadog, Splunk, ELK, etc.)
Knowledge of event-driven systems and message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
Experience with API documentation tools like Swagger/OpenAPI
Understanding of API Gateways and OAuth concepts

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Hands on experience with AWS cloud architecture and development using AWS resources like S3, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, etc
Building Spring apps utilizing both SQL and NoSQL Databases (Mongo, DynamoDB, SQL Server, Postgres, etc..)
Nice to Have:
Experience working in Agile or Scrum teams
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
JavaScript
Python

EDUCATION:
College Degree required.
Minimum 3 years of work experience.
