Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Java Developer to design, develop, enhance, modernize, test, and maintain enterprise applications supporting U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) mission programs.
The Java Developer will work within Agile, cross-functional product teams to deliver secure, scalable, maintainable, and user-centered applications. The role will support both ongoing application sustainment and modernization initiatives across mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise Java applications.
- Develop and enhance applications using modern Java development practices and frameworks.
- Support applications using 3-tier architectures and enterprise application servers, including WildFly and OpenLiberty.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and integrations with internal and external systems.
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable, and secure application components.
- Analyze existing code and identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve maintainability.
- Support modernization of legacy application components and migration to modern technologies.
- Develop automated unit, integration, and functional tests.
- Participate in CI/CD pipelines, automated code scanning, security testing, and deployment automation.
- Troubleshoot application defects, performance issues, integration problems, and production incidents.
- Work with database developers and data specialists to implement efficient data access and transaction processing.
- Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, UX/HCD professionals, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and other technical team members.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
- Contribute to application architecture, technical documentation, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
- Support application monitoring, logging, performance optimization, and operational stability.
- Ensure developed solutions comply with applicable security, privacy, accessibility, and government technology requirements.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience developing enterprise applications using Java.
- Strong experience with Java/J2EE or comparable enterprise Java technologies.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and enterprise integrations.
- Experience with relational databases and SQL.
- Experience with application servers such as WildFly, JBoss, or OpenLiberty.
- Experience with software development lifecycle, Agile development, testing, and deployment.
- Experience with Git-based source control and CI/CD practices.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting AWS environments.
- Experience with AWS RDS/Oracle or comparable relational database environments.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Experience with Amazon Corretto or other OpenJDK distributions.
- Experience with DevSecOps, automated security scanning, infrastructure automation, and cloud deployment.
- Experience supporting federal government applications.
- Experience with application modernization and technical-debt reduction.
- Experience with containerization and cloud-native application development.
- Relevant Java, cloud, or security certifications.
Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $90,000 - $140,000 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
