Schwab Asset Management Technology supports the research and asset management platforms that help clients plan for their financial futures. Within this organization, the Investment Research Technology team develops innovative applications, data platforms, and technology solutions that empower Schwab professionals and clients to make informed investment decisions. As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development and modernization of technology solutions that support investment research, quantitative analysis, and asset management capabilities across Schwab. Working closely with engineers, architects, researchers, and business partners, you will help design, build, and support scalable applications, cloud-ready platforms, and data solutions that improve business outcomes and user experiences. Depending on your skills and interests, you may contribute to full-stack application development, financial research engineering, cloud data engineering, or data platform modernization initiatives. In this role, you will help deliver next-generation applications using modern engineering practices, event-driven architectures, and cloud technologies. You will contribute to modernization efforts that improve workflow automation, platform scalability, data accessibility, and operational efficiency. Success requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality software that meets business needs in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.You will partner across teams to design and implement solutions, support and enhance research data pipelines and analytics platforms, strengthen cloud infrastructure, and promote engineering excellence through automation, DevOps practices, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is curious, technically versatile, and motivated to learn new technologies while helping build innovative solutions that create meaningful value for Schwab clients and employees.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, application development, data engineering, quantitative engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting enterprise software applications.
  • Experience developing backend services using Java and Spring-based technologies or similar object-oriented programming frameworks.
  • Experience applying software design principles, development standards, and engineering best practices to build high-quality solutions.
  • Experience developing and deploying cloud-ready applications using Pivotal Cloud Foundry or comparable cloud platforms.
  • Experience working with application security, application maintenance, incident response, production support, and operational excellence practices.
  • Experience working within Agile software development environments and collaborating across cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns, APIs, and modern application architectures.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and apply them effectively to evolving business and technical challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience developing enterprise applications, financial technology solutions, or cloud-based platforms.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Financial Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience developing modern full-stack applications using Angular or similar front-end frameworks.
  • Experience supporting financial research, investment, asset management, quantitative analytics, or data science platforms.
  • Experience building and maintaining cloud-based data engineering solutions, data pipelines, and large-scale data platforms.
  • Experience with Python, R, or MATLAB for analytics, visualization, automation, or research-related development.
  • Experience developing dashboard and reporting solutions using Plotly Dash or similar visualization technologies.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including SQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Hadoop, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, DevOps principles, BDD, and TDD practices.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting containerized and cloud-native solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with solution architects on application modernization and technical design initiatives.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to engineering best practices.
  • Demonstrated curiosity for emerging technologies and a passion for delivering innovative, client-centric solutions.
  • Strong collaboration, adaptability, and influence skills with the ability to build effective partnerships across teams.
