To guide student toward the fulfillment of their intellectual, physical, and psychological potential. This position involves the education and supervision of students who have been suspended and would otherwise not be in a positive educational setting. Students will be referred by both Southwestern Consolidated School Corporation and Madison Consolidated School Corporation, however, this position will be listed as employee of Madison Consolidated School Corporation.

Qualifications:

Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education. Ability to plan and organize. Skills in human relations. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents. Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board and Jefferson County Juvenile Probation. Additional on-site training will be required.

Pay:

$45,000.00 per year

Supervises:

Students, grades 7 through 12, who have been suspended for violation(s) of school rules

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Work to reinforce instruction introduced by the regular classroom teachers

Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work established by regular classroom teachers

Maintains a disciplined atmosphere appropriate to the teaching environment

Establishes reasonable classroom rules with consistent enforcement occurring in a positive way

Starts class on time, get students on tasks, and make maximum use of time

Supervises pre-arranged community service performed by students

Emphasizes and enforces safety factors within the classroom and building, as well as any off-site community service locations

Effectively communicate with students, parents, school administrators, and Juvenile Probation staff

Takes all necessary precautions to protect and to maintain facilities, equipment, and materials

Speaks clearly using fluent and appropriate language in modulated tones.

Effectively communicates all learning objectives to students

Engages in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work.

Skills:

Exhibit interest in what is being taught and in the needs of the student

Assist in the implementation of policies and/or regulations which are established

Demonstrate professional ethics in activities in school and community

Demonstrate respect for the worth and dignity of each student

Cooperate with community agencies as they pertain to classroom activities

Maintain a satisfactory record of punctuality and attendance

Conduct all school-related activities in a manner that serves as a positive influence on youth
