Job Cost Analyst

Position Overview

Reliance One, Inc. is seeking an experienced Job Cost Analyst to join a growing team in Big Rapids, MI. This position works directly with the accounting and operations teams to compile, analyze, and report accurate project financial information to support informed business decisions and drive project success. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction and job-cost accounting, excellent analytical abilities, and experience working with ERP and job cost systems. This role offers the opportunity to partner closely with project teams, improve processes, and contribute to the financial health and performance of the organization.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Set up and maintain jobs and contracts within the ERP system.
  • Oversee compliance with accounting and project-related requirements.
  • Compile and analyze cost variances to verify accuracy and evaluate project performance.
  • Support the monthly accounting close process, including:
  • Job cost reviews
  • Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
  • Margin analysis and reviews
  • Assist with project risk mitigation activities, including:
  • Notices of Commencement (NOC)
  • Notices of Furnishing (NOF)
  • Liens and contractual obligations
  • Maintain union and non-union labor rates, T&M pricing logs, and forecasting tools.
  • Prepare analysis and trend reports on project performance and corporate metrics.
  • Partner with project managers and operations teams to answer questions, provide reporting, and resolve issues.
  • Assist with training and continuous improvement of job cost processes, systems, and reporting tools.
  • Communicate observed trends and impacts related to project WIP, gain/fade reporting, and financial projections to the Director of Finance & Accounting.
  • Collaborate directly with accounting teams, project managers, and project coordinator staff to ensure accurate and reliable job costing.


Qualifications – What You Bring (Must Haves)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
  • 5+ years of construction and job-cost accounting experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems and job-cost accounting software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve accounting-related issues.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
  • Pivot Tables
  • VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
  • Basic data analysis and reporting
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Collaborative, service-oriented approach to supporting project teams.


Preferred Qualifications (Added Bonus)

  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE.
  • Experience with report writing, databases, and system integrations.
  • Knowledge of construction accounting principles and project financial reporting.
  • Experience with forecasting, work-in-progress reporting, and gain/fade analysis.
  • Understanding of union and non-union labor costing structures.
  • Experience supporting process improvements and ERP implementations.
