JOURNAL CLERK

There is an opening in the Allegany County Clerk of the Board's Office for the position of Journal Clerk.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:  

This is an appointed position charged with the responsibility of accurately recording and reporting the actions of the Board of Legislators' committees. Provides assistance to the Clerk of the Board. Does related work as required.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Prepares Boardroom for Legislative meetings;
  • Takes and transcribes minutes, roll call, records votes for committee meetings;
  • Prepares agendas;
  • Posts information to the County website;
  • Maintains accrual balances for department employees;
  • Maintains distribution lists;
  • Assists with document management and file maintenance;
  • Provides routine and special assistance to the Board, committees, Clerk of the Board, and individual Legislators as requested;
  • Utilizes a personal computer and applications in the performance of duties;
  • Maintains a current understanding of Allegany County policies on sexual harassment, equal employment, drug free workplace, and workplace violence prevention, actively promotes compliance with the policies, and reports acts of non-compliance to higher level manager or department head.

Full Performance, Knowledges, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: 

Good knowledge of office practices and techniques including taking and transcribing official proceedings, utilizing a personal computer and software applications; and preparing reports; good organizational skills; thorough command of the English language including knowledge and use of proper grammar; skill in proofreading; ability to maintain confidentiality of discussions, claims, etc.

Minimum Qualifications: 

A. An Associate's Degree OR
B. Two (2) years of clerical experience
