Journalist in Residence (adjunct faculty)
The Communication Program at Lasell University in Newton MA seeks a part time Journalist in Residence to join our faculty in teaching the next generation of multimedia journalists in a rapidly changing media environment. Start date Fall 2026.
The position combines teaching responsibilities with hands-on advising of our student-run newspaper. We seek a candidate who is passionate about teaching and mentoring students and committed to the ongoing relevance of journalism as fundamental to democracy.
We are specifically looking for faculty who appreciate the value diverse students bring to a campus community and are eager to help foster an inclusive and equitable campus environment. Faculty mentors who represent the increasing diversity of our student body are particularly encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will serve as Advisor to the student newspaper, The 1851 Chronicle, and will teach one undergraduate Journalism course per term ranging from foundational news writing and reporting, to feature, investigative and multimedia journalism. The Advisor also teaches a 1-credit practicum for 1851 staff.
The 1851 Chronicle Advisor oversees students in the planning, creation and promotion of the 1851 Chronicle's monthly print publication and its digital channels. The Advisor is instrumental in recruiting news staff and engaging the campus community in the work of the paper. They guide and train students in journalism practices including writing, research, AP-style, reporting and ethical standards. The Advisor supervises the administration of the news organization.
Successful candidates will demonstrate an avid interest in teaching writing, research, interviewing and reporting across platforms and genres utilizing a project-focused approach. A background in sports media is a plus.
The Communication program is always seeking to enhance and diversify offerings and seeks a candidate who will work both within and beyond the program to shape the curriculum in response to industry developments and new potential markets.
