Paid time off and other benefits are offered in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Public School Employees of Kelso Chapter #1 found HERE.School employees | Washington State Health Care AuthorityThe job of "Journey-Level Carpenter" is for the purpose/s of completing construction projects safely and within established time frame; ensuring efficient and safe utilization of space; producing required cabinetry and furnishings; ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner; ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner and directing assigned workers as necessary ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.Repairs furniture, floors, roofs, floor tile, cabinets, ceilings, walls, playground equipment, and other building components, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safe and functional equipment and facilities.Builds and installs cabinets, counter tops, storage units, cases, shelving, partitions, doors, bulletin boards, playground equipment, ramps, gates, etc., for the purpose of completing projects safely and within established time frames.Responds to emergency situations (e.g. facility damage, playground equipment, roof leaks, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.Remodels district facilities for the purpose of ensuring safe and efficient utilization of spaceInstalls and maintains all building door hardware (e.g. closers, hinges, panic devices, passage sets) for the purpose of maintaining proper door functions.Assists in maintaining district lock/keying systems for the purpose of maintaining key security in all facilitiesInspects school or district facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.Prepares lists of supplies, equipment and tools needed for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.Assists other trades as needed for the purpose of meeting demands and completing work orders in a timely manner.Coordinates with district and other trades' staff for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.Directs personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements.Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:Experience Required: Prior journeyman-level carpenter experience. Minimum 12 years of carpenter experience preferred.Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills to: operate hand and power tools used in craft; develop, read and interpret plans/blueprints; perform basic math to make calculations; key and install door hardware including locksets, closers, panic devices and passage sets.Knowledge of: methods and use of materials, tools and equipment used in craft; appropriate building codes; safety (MSDS) requirements; and keying and door hardware installation.Abilities to stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, establish priorities, work independently and with minimal supervision.Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, reaching/handling/finger dexterity, talking/hearing conversations, near visual acuity/depth perception.Training Required: Journeyman carpenter, or 12 years carpenter experience.Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, and valid CPR/First Aid cards.Other Requirements: Must have and maintain a phone and be willing to respond to off-hour emergency calls; must have own vehicle; must have all carpenter hand tools; must have excellent moral character and be able to get along with staff, students and adults; must present a positive public image, maintain a neat, clean personal appearance, wear clothing appropriate to tasks being performed, and have regular and consistent work attendance EDUCATION:High school diploma and/or equivalent; prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
