Journeyman Die Maker - 2nd Shift

Shift Premium:+$1.50/hour for 2nd shift

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Die Maker with a strong manual machining background to join our 2nd shift tool room team. This position is responsible for building, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting stamping dies while working from blueprints and engineering specifications. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in precision machining, die assembly, and close-tolerance fitting.

Responsibilities

  • Build, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot stamping dies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, die drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Plan machining operations using shop mathematics and knowledge of metal-forming processes.
  • Set up and operate manual machine tools, including:
    • Lathes
    • Milling machines
    • Surface, ID, and OD grinders
  • Machine components to precise tolerances and verify accuracy using precision measuring instruments.
  • Assemble, fit, polish, and adjust die components using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect die clearances, alignment, and dimensions using micrometers, dial indicators, gauge blocks, and thickness gauges.
  • Perform die tryouts and make final adjustments in the press to achieve quality production parts.
  • Safely move die components using hoists and other lifting equipment.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and recommend improvements.
  • Complete assigned projects efficiently while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Journeyman Die Maker certification or equivalent die making experience.
  • 1-2+ years of experience in die making, die repair, or die maintenance.
  • Strong manual machining experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience operating tool room equipment.
  • Experience with ID/OD grinding to close tolerances.
  • Strong shop math skills, including geometry, algebra, and trigonometry.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred

  • GD&T knowledge.
  • Mechanical or computer drafting experience.
  • Tooling design experience.
  • Engineering problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 standards.
  • Materials and manufacturing process knowledge.
