Pierce County Refuse Lemay is seeking a reliable, safety-focused Diesel Mechanic in Frederickson, WA, to support our heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance teams. This position offers a competitive hourly rate, CDL premium, and a swing shift differential.

Compensation & Benefits


+ Hourly Rate: $37.00 – $41.00/hour (DOE)

+ CDL Premium: Additional $1.00/hour for Class A or B CDL holders

+ Shift Differential: +$1.50/hour for swing shift

Schedule & Overtime


+ Shift: Monday – Friday, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM

+ Overtime: Average 8–10 hours/week; paid at 1.5×

+ Swing shift with differential applied


Key Responsibilities


+ Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel trucks and trailers

+ Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems

+ Use diagnostic tools and software (Cummins Insite, Davie‑4, Allison DOC)

+ Perform DOT and OSHA‑compliant safety inspections

+ Execute MIG welding and basic fabrication tasks

+ Test drive vehicles to confirm repair quality and performance

+ Record repairs, parts, and hours using fleet maintenance software

+ Review and address Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs)

+ Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment

+ Communicate clearly with drivers, supervisors, and team members

+ Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures


Required Qualifications


+ Minimum of 3 years of heavy truck/diesel mechanic experience

+ Experience with diagnostics and repair of heavy-duty equipment

+ Valid Driver’s License (Class B CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days)

+ Welding experience (MIG) preferred

+ Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, and vehicle safety standards

+ Ability to read and apply technical documentation

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team

+ Must have own basic tool set
