Job Summary and Qualifications

A Journeyman Electrician is a skilled worker who is an expert at working with any manner of electrical systems in commercial and industrial settings. As a Journeyman Electrician, their responsibilities and duties include installing new electrical systems, as well as maintaining and repairing existing ones. Journeyman Electrician are experts regarding electrical equipment, lock-out/tag-out processes and all manner of electrical systems in the hospital environment including but not limited to emergency generators and emergency power supply systems. They may train and direct Electrical Technicians and Electrical Apprentices on their way to becoming Journeyman Electricians. Must have the ability to work during weekends and evenings, and participate in an on-call rotation. 

Major Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Inspects and tests electrical lighting, power circuits, and other related equipment.
  • Removes and replaces defective wiring and circuits. Tests circuits to comply with safety regulations.
  • Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment using instruments such as ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, growler, etc.
  • Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Installs new conduit, wiring, and electrical equipment.
  • Removes and installs motors, transformers, lighting fixtures or other equipment and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.
  • Assembles, installs, and connects components to switchboards and distribution panels and connects them to units controlled.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on electrical systems and components.
  • Estimates the quantities of materials needed to complete work assignments and requisitions them properly.
  • Performs required preventive maintenance and emergency repairs in a complete and timely manner.
  • Conform to regulatory testing and inspections requirements on emergency power systems including emergency generators and automatic transfer switches.

People

  • Communicate in a clear, professional manner with colleagues, visitors, and patients.
  • Willingness to train and mentor maintenance technicians in basic electrical skills.

 Growth

  • Mentor Maintenance Technicians and educate them on building electrical systems, their operation and maintenance.
  • Continual personal development through training and on the job learning to provide upward growth and mobility.

 Finance

  • Complete project estimates including labor and material resources

 Other

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”

 

Education & Experience:

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalency Required
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician Required
  • 5+ years relevant experience Required
  • 3+ years of experience in a healthcare environment Preferred Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience

 Licenses & Certifications: Credential:

  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician – or a greater license
