POSITION: Electronic Technician

LOCATION: Jamestown, ND (preferred) or Devils Lake, ND

DUTIES

At Otter Tail Power Company, our employees support the reliable systems and technology that powers our communities. We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Electronic Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic telecommunications and networking equipment throughout our service territory.

In this role, you will work with a variety of technologies and systems while applying your technical knowledge, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, variety, travel, and contributing to dependable utility operations.

This position reports to Supervisor Network Engineering.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair network and telecommunications infrastructure and equipment, including:

• Network Transport and telecommunication services

• Microwave radio systems

• Fiber optic infrastructure and cable plant

• Communications tower infrastructure

• Two-way radio systems

• Telephone and paging systems

• Supervisory control, telemetering, and SCADA equipment

• Load-control systems

• Batteries, chargers, inverters, and power systems

• Utilize standard test and diagnostic equipment to identify, analyze, and resolve communication and network system issues. Equipment includes voltmeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, optical power meter, OTDR, fiber splicer, and hand tools.

• Work with transmitting and receiving antennas, radio interference equipment and tower lighting systems.

• Applies strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with ingenuity, when responding to complex technical situations.

• Create detailed documentation and accurate reports tracking work performed, materials usage, and expenditures.

• Perform assigned duties throughout the Otter Tail Power Company system as business needs require.

• Complete all work in accordance with company safety requirements and use the appropriate equipment and protective measures.

• Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

We're seeking candidates with:

• Thorough knowledge of networking and telecommunications related equipment, services, and integrated technologies.
• Knowledge of test equipment and electronic testing procedures.
• The ability to maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of network infrastructure, telecommunication services, and electronic equipment
• Strong judgment, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills when addressing unusual situations.
• Builds and maintains productive, cooperative relationships with colleagues across the organization
• The willingness and ability to travel throughout the company's service territory.
• A commitment to working safely and following company safety rules and procedures.
• The ability to establish residence within 30 miles of the position's permanent headquarters.
