We are currently taking applications for Journeyman Electricians. A Journeyman Electrician works under the guidance of a Foreman or Superintendent, and may oversee and direct the work of a crew of 1 to 5 helpers or apprentices in installations, alterations, additions, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment on any type project.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A Journeyman may be required to perform any of the duties and responsibilities associated with classifications E1-E5. In addition, a senior level Journeyman:
  • Interprets drawings and develops an overall crew work plan.
  • Lays out work and preps materials for installation.
  • Does rigging and job set ups for all tasks performed or supervised.
  • Performs underground layout and rough-in.
  • Determines wire and conduit sizing.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, threaders and hand or mechanical benders.
  • Installs BUSS feeders.
  • Performs switchgear installation and terminations.
  • Installs and connects power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.
  • Operates any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
  • Understands and instructs assigned helpers in the safe operation of tools, use of equipment, electrical principles, and applicable codes.
  • Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.
  • Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Requires basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills. Must understand basic electrical theory and its application to installations. Must be able to work occasional overtime as required.

Licenses: TDLR Journeyman's License, current Driver's License and must have own reliable transportation.

Education: High School Graduate, GED or equivalent.

Experience Must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program and have over 8000 hours of on the job work experience with a valid TDLR license.

This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employee, subcontractors and trades.

  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
  • Ability to comprehend forms in space and understand relationships of plane and solid objects. May be used in such tasks as blue print reading and in solving geometry problems. Frequently described as the ability to "visualize" objects of two and three dimensions, or to think visually of geometric forms.
  • Ability to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs. The frequency of manipulation if frequently.
  • Ability to move up or mount by using the hands or feet to include:
Ladders - Step stool, 8' to 10' ladder, extension ladder

Stairways - 3 or more flights
  • To bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend, downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees between 20-50 times daily
  • To stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part. To touch or grasp something, by extending or stretching. To touch, lift, hold or operate with the hands up to 50 times daily.
  • To perceive or comprehend by the sense of sight.
Characteristics are: Focus, Color perception or depth perception.
  • The ability to operate or convey in a vehicle, car, commercial vehicle
